Biography

Dr. Akosua Joyce Oppong

DNP, PMHNP- BC, FNP-C, MSN, RN

Dr. Oppong is the Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner provider at BMC LLC.  Becoming a healthcare provider has been a life-long dream, rewarding and fulling I diligently worked to accomplish.  She started career as a Registered Nurse, during which She had the opportunity to work in acute care, PACU, Oncology/ Hematology, as a Research nurse at the National Institutes of Health (NIH), pediatrics ER, Mental Health Nursing, Long-term care, Correctional Nursing. During her nursing career, she had an opportunity to travel to Liberia during the Ebola pandemic to initiate the Ebola vaccine. She finds pride, which was the most rewarding part of her career. While she was in her   Family Nurse Practitioner Program, she had the privilege of completing her clinical rotations at the following sites:

For the duration of her time in these rotations, she was fortunate to care for various patients and families. She believes in continuity of care for all her patients and is looking forward to extending this quality of care at BMC practice. Dr. Joyce Oppong is seeking to work with the population with Mental Health disorders and opioid dependency management, individual therapy, and family therapy so she can provide access to the most vulnerable and non-insured patients. We now have the opportunity to care for patients and their families, not only for Mental Health disorders and medication management but also for a follow-up to make sure they are stable. Dr. Oppong is looking forward to using evidence-based practice guidelines to care for mental health patients across the lifespan and loves the diversity in her field.

She obtained her Associate’s degree in Nursing Science in 2005 at Howard Community College and her Bachelor’s in Science of Nursing at Chamberlin College of Nursing in 2015. In 2018, She continue to a higher education and obtained her master’s in the science of Nursing and specialized in Family Practice. Dr. Oppong is a Family Nurse Practitioner certified through the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners, and a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Certified through the American Nurses Credentialing Center. Due to her enthusiasm to decrease health disparities, including mental health for women after childbirth, her doctorate  dissertation research project titled: Does Yoga Improves Postpartum Depressive Symptoms in women 18-45 years?

Dr. Oppong is the Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner owner, and founder of Blessing Medical Consultants. She started her career as a Registered Nurse, during which She had the opportunity to work in multiple specialties which includes Medical Surgical, ICU, PACU, Mental Health Nursing, Prison nursing, and Pediatric ER just to mentioned a few. In 2005 she obtained her associate degree in nursing science at Howard Community College Columbia MD and earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Chamberlin College of Nursing in 2015. After honing her experience for 10 years as bedside nursing. She continued to pursue higher education and obtained her Master of Science in Nursing and specialized in Family Practice in 2018 At Walden University. Dr. Oppong is a Family Nurse Practitioner certified through the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners, and a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Certified through the American Nurses Credentialing Center. Due to her enthusiasm, and passion to decrease health disparities, including mental health for women after childbirth, she did her doctorate dissertation research project in Yoga Improves Postpartum Depressive Symptoms in women 18-45 years. While she was in her Family Nurse Practitioner Program and Psychiatry mental health nursing, she had the privilege of completing her clinical rotations at the following sites:

In May 2021 she earned her doctorate degree specializing in Postpartum Depression for women ages 18-45 years old at University of Massachusetts Global Formally known as Brandman University in California.
